Man killed in southwest Bakersfield crash after running red light

Police say a man ran a red light and hit another car and a tree on Gosford Road in southwest Bakersfield on Thursday night, resulting in the man's death.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Gosford Road and District Boulevard on June 8, 2023, at approximately 10:41 p.m. regarding an accident.
At the point when officials showed up, they found a man in the street experiencing significant wounds.
The driver had been removed from his vehicle prior to the arrival of police, according to witnesses to the collision.
When the officers arrived, they began performing CPR until help arrived. Life-saving measures were carried out by Bakersfield Fire and Hall Ambulance personnel; Nevertheless, the driver passed away from his injuries.
The female driver of the other vehicle involved suffered only minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to the BPD, the man collided with the other vehicle at the intersection of Gosford Road and District Boulevard after failing to stop for a red light.
The man lost control of his vehicle after the collision with the other vehicle and ended up in the center median of Gosford Road with a tree.
According to police, speed (Amphetamine) is thought to have been a factor in the collision.
It is unknown whether alcohol played a role as well.
While the scene was being processed, Gosford Road was closed between McNair Lane and District Boulevard.
